NGesture

Natural 3-D engagement

Imagine controlling your computer and its applications with a wave of your hand. No keyboard or mouse to tap. Just move your hands in mid-air. Northrop Grumman’s NGesture allows you to do just that.

An intuitive gesture technology, NGesture removes artificial barriers to interacting with data and applications. By simply moving their hands, users can immerse themselves in an intuitive, natural environ-ment to experience unconstrained discovery and exploration. NGesture brings important new features to real-time data interaction:

  • The ability to directly engage in with data in open, 3-D space and generate new, compelling and intuitive commands.
  • The use of a low-cost, removable and disposable display surface.
  • A unique paradigm for interaction that allows users to break free from the keyboard and mouse.

NGgesture brings robust, intuitive, engagement to day-to-day computer interaction. Designed with innovation in mind and with the knowledge that users will employ it in unique and inventive ways, NGesture enables:

  • Interaction with data in ways that were previously impossible, thanks to un-tethered, precise, flexible shape and movement recognition (3-D and six degrees of freedom)
  • Small group collaboration
  • Virtual distance collaboration
  • Ability to “Gesture-enable” any PC- based application
  • Easy and swift integration that adapts to any mission environment
  • Creation of unique gestures with “Customize” and “Teach” modules, for new levels of customized interaction
  • A tool that adapts to the user, rather than the user adapting to the tool
  • Future capability for users to take advantage of complex gestures by passing advanced interaction data directly to their software applications.

In conference rooms, videoteleconference suites, command centers and deployed settings, NGesture enables highly collaborative interaction. With no mouse, glove or pointing device to share, users simply use their hands to rapidly collaborate and direct applica-tions. And sharing does not stop at the conference table. NGesture supports a variety of collaboration applications, allowing users to interact with standard multi-touch devices, PCs, collocated displays and other platforms. In the command center environment, NGesture users can engage and control distant displays by pointing. Other users can create completely dynamic control panels, enabling operators to virtually control distant devices.

Subject-matter experts can employ NGesture for small group collaboration, supporting information exchange and knowledge discovery. Mission planners can spread their fingers to “fly” airborne assets, pointing a finger to allocate sensor tasking
